Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) in Schools – A neglected issue

Download Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) in Schools – A neglected issue

Menstruation is defined as the periodic discharge of blood and mucosal tissue from the uterus, occurring approximately monthly from puberty to menopause in non-pregnant women. Girls usually menstruate for the first time between the age of 10 and 15. Learning about menstruation is thus vital for secondary school students, but it is not too early to raise awareness in elementary school. In the following, this report will provide a summary of the discussion on MHM, the main issues addressed as well as recommendations made. Experiences shared from different countries will be listed under the respective countries. The synthesis does not necessarily express all the standpoints that came up in the discussion nor can it take up all the issues raised during the course of the debate.
