The purpose of this book is to publish a detailed analysis of prospective (Blue Growth) and established (Blue Economy) maritime business sectors. The contents of the book are based on deliverables and output material from the MARIBE (Marine Investment for the Blue Economy) project. This European Union (EU) H2020 funded research project was completed in 2016. It identified the key technical and non-technical challenges facing maritime industries and placed them into the social and economic context of the coastal and ocean economy. Working with industry, MARIBE developed business plans and real projects for the combination of marine industry sectors into multi-use platforms (MUPs). MARIBE is the first extensive study to compare and contrast the traditional Blue Economy with the Blue Growth newcomers.

In this book, sector experts working to a common template explain each of these industries and their capacity to combine into multi-use platforms. Factors essential to prospective business plans are identified – market, structure, lifecycle, employment, innovation and investment. The book goes on to describe progress with reformed regimes of maritime governance within which these industries must operate. The introduction of new planning and regulatory regimes in four Sea Basins – North East Atlantic, Baltic and North Seas, Mediterranean and Caribbean – are examined.

L’objectif de ce livre est de publier une analyse détaillée des secteurs d’activité maritime potentiels (croissance bleue) et établis (économie bleue). Le contenu de l’ouvrage est basé sur les résultats et les livrables du projet MARIBE (Marine Investment for the Blue Economy). Ce projet de recherche financé par l’Union européenne (UE) H2020 s’est achevé en 2016. Il a identifié les principaux défis techniques et non techniques auxquels sont confrontées les industries maritimes et les a placés dans le contexte social et économique de l’économie côtière et océanique. En collaboration avec l’industrie, MARIBE a élaboré des plans d’affaires et des projets réels pour la combinaison des secteurs de l’industrie maritime en plateformes multi-usages (PUM). MARIBE est la première étude approfondie qui compare et oppose l’économie bleue traditionnelle aux nouveaux venus de la croissance bleue.

Dans cet ouvrage, des experts sectoriels travaillant selon un modèle commun expliquent chacune de ces industries et leur capacité à se combiner en plateformes multi-usages. Les facteurs essentiels aux plans d’affaires prospectifs sont identifiés – marché, structure, cycle de vie, emploi, innovation et investissement. L’ouvrage décrit ensuite les progrès réalisés en matière de réforme des régimes de gouvernance maritime dans le cadre desquels ces industries doivent opérer. L’introduction de nouveaux régimes de planification et de réglementation dans quatre bassins maritimes – Atlantique Nord-Est, mer Baltique et mer du Nord, Méditerranée et Caraïbes – est examinée.
